What’s Happening!

This morning thousands and thousands are mourning the death of  Yolanda Denise King activist and eldest daughter of the late Martin Lutther King Jr. Ms. King was only 51 years old when she passed away suddenly yesterday in Santa Monica, California. The cause of death has not been determined at this time, Steve Klein, a spokesman for the King Center has reported that the family believes her death may have been heart related. Ms. King was not only a civil rights activist and author but also an actress who appeared in numerous films, including playing the role of  Rosa Parks in the 1978 miniseries “King.” She also appeared in “Ghosts of Mississippi,” and founded a production company called Higher Ground Productions.  Ms. King is survived by one sister, two brothers and host a of friends and other relatives. We are sure she will be missed by them all. Information on the arrangements will be announced at a later time.

Speaking of the Kings….In related but not really news R. Kelly has joined his estranged wife in making a complete ass of himself in an article. The new issue of Hip-Hop Soul includes the following quote from the self professed king of R&B (yes there is another one other than Bobby):  ”I’m the Ali of today. I’m the Marvin Gaye of today. I’m the Bob Marley of today. I’m the Martin Luther King, or all the other greats that have come before us. And a lot of people are starting to realize that now.”  All we can think at the SdB eZine is: Say What!  We must have missed  ”The I have dream that little black boys and little black girls will all one day join me in a pissing-fest” speech.

In other news to make you shake your head…TMZ.com is reporting that-the infamous Ike Turner  self professed father of rock and roll (who R-Kelly should really compare himself too–yall know Ike has probably peed on a few people in his day) was arrested late last night on a felony narcotics charges. The 75 year old was pulled over for speeding in Los Angeles and quickly arrested on an outstanding warrant.  No word on whether he has been released yet.

In sports news the Warriors have lost their astonishing bid to be the next NBA champions. The Golden State team was knocked out of the playoffs by the Utah Jazz last night. Warriors suprised everyone including their own fans with their powerful play and advancement past the first round. The Warriors kicked off a great ride while fans stood behind them graced in the yellow We Believe t-shirts. The fan passion was not enough and the Utah Jazz beat the Warriours 100 to 87.

On TV:  CW announced their fall 2007 season, and “All of Us,” the Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith – produced sitcom starring Duane Martin and LisaRaye McCoy, is not on the roster. The show was cancelled after its fourth season. Three made CW’s cut: “Girlfriends,” “Everybody Hates Chris,” and “The Game” were renewed for another seasonYeahhhhhh The Game will be back!
