What’s Happening?  

It seems black stars were catching beat downs left and right this past weekend. To start with Atlanta rapper T.I. got into a major brawl with Chaka Zulu, Ludacris’s  manager and DTP co-founder and CEO.  Every gossip website out there is reporting on the fight that happened at a pre-BET awards Brunch. Apparently T.I. Threw the first punch and then commenced to choking ole boy. YBF blog spot is reporting that Luda left the scene as soon a

s the shit hit the fan not wanting to be a part of the drama (or help his boy).   It seems Chaka had to have a little help and that’s when security got involved. T.I.  talking mess all the way , was escorted out of the event with Tiny in tow.  

Foxy Brown also was the recipient of a bizarre Brooklyn beat down this past weekend. It seems that the rapper was sitting outside the Pink Houses projects trying to break-up with her boyfriend who she recently discovered was a pimp…We swear we are not making this up…It seems the man didn’t take it as well as Fox would have hoped and In a bold twist, pimp daddy calls his first string hoes to the scene where they beat and robbed Foxy, nearly snatching her bald.  All the news agencies on the planet are reporting that Foxy lost her hearing aid, a Louie bag, $500 and most of her hair when it was all said and done.  However Ms. Brown has said that the incident never occurred and even denies being in East New York when the fight supposedly occurred. Her alleged attacker Roshawn Anthony, a stripper is still being held on a $50,000 bond, charged with robbery, assault and grand larceny.

 In more sedate news that could possibly lead to a future beat down…feuding members of the defunct group Salt N Pepa have reunited. The two rappers and their side-kick DJ will star in The Salt-N-Pepa Show a 10 episode reality series which will follow Cheryl “Salt” James, Sandra “Pepa” Denton and Deidre “Dee Dee” Roper — as they attempt to reunite. This will be no easy feat being that most of their past issues are still unresolved. It’s been reported that Salt is well, salty about being unappreciated back in the day while Pepa blames Salt for the ultimate demise of the group. This should be entertaining, if not explosive to watch. The Show is set to premiere on VH1. We’ll keep you posted on this one.  

 Tidbits:

• Shemar Moore should be thankful he was able to enter a no-contest plea on the charge of exhibition of speed rather than the two misdemeanor DUI charges he originally faced.  The DUI charges were dropped, and Moore was given 36 months probation as well as an approximate $1400 fine and ordered to perform community service.
• Keyshia Cole and rapper Fabolous are due to star in the Karl Lagerfeld produced hip hop drama, Only The Hood Dies Young. The movie, which is due to start production in October, centers around a young drug dealer (Fabolous) struggling with his mother’s addiction and his girlfriend, played by Keyshia. Fabolous has appeared on the big screen before, most notably in Scary Movie 4 back in 2006. This however will be Keyshia’s first foray into movies. – Karl Lagerfeld…Okay don’t dude make cologne?  
• Eddie you are the father! DNA test results last week proved the mega star Eddie Murphy is the father of ex Spice Girl Melanie Brown’s baby Angel Iris. The actor was ordered by a judge to produce DNA and to determine the paternity of the baby born on April 3 of this year.  Eddie has vowed to step up to his responsibility. - As if not doing so is really an option.
• Is Jordin Sparks dating the runner-up Blake Lewis? That seems to be the newest American Idol rumor floating around! The two have been seen getting cozy all over L.A. lately.  Not only do the two not make a good couple, isn’t he 8 years older than the 17 year-old crooner!?!? If her parents have any sense he’d be doing the Jail House Rock.  He needs to sit his old ass down and stop riding this youngsters coat tails.

 On TV: it’s Monday and we have the TV line-up for tonight and tomorrow night. Primetime Monday includes your usual CW urban line-up. This is a chance to catch-up on the season shows you missed. However we are recommending: Monday: In the 8:00 p.m. time slot new animated show Creature Comforts on CBS we’re hearing great things about this series. In the 9:00 p.m. slot check out Hell’s Kitchen if you like to see young people get abused by a overbearing chef/host. Tuesday: The 2007 BET Awards on none other than BET!

SdB eZine apologizes for the brief hiatus,  but now we are back!! Let’s get right to the news and muse in this double packed issue.

Heirhead Paris Hilton is still causing mass problems for the LA County Sherriff department. Sheriff Baca and the LA County Department of Corrections garnered public outrage when it was learned that Hilton was given good time credit on her sentence of 45-days in the country jail before she actually began serving time and subsequently released to home detention after only 2 days in custody. The LA City attorney and judge on the case expressed outrage as well and Paris was ordered back to the LA county jail on Friday. Community activist and residents of LA continue to cite that Hilton was given preferential treatment not afforded to minorities and low income residence of the city who find themselves in Sheriff Department custody.  In the latest development ambulance chasing attorney Gloria Allred has managed to worm her way into the situation on behalf of Pamela Richardson, a 51-year old combat veteran who is a double amputee as a result of active duty combat. Allred held a press conference in LA admonishing Sheriff Baca for how the Paris situation was handled and accusing the LA Sheriff department of shocking mistreatment of her client when she too was held at the Lynwood detention center.

In other news from L.A …After being ordered to do so by a judge Eddie Murphy finally took the DNA test necessary to establish whether he fathered the infant daughter of ex Spice girl Melanie Brown. The actor-comedienne arrived at a Beverly Hills clinic yesterday amongst a throng of media attention. Murphy missed the London premiere of his latest film, “Shrek the Third,” in order to take the test as ordered by a judge. The actor says he will do the right thing if the test determines he is indeed the father. Melanie gave birth to a daughter 2 months ago who she named Angel Iris Murphy.  All We Can Say At The SdB eZine: Damn right he will, does he really have a choice!?!?! We’re still perturbed that he had to be ordered by a judge to even get this far. Mel better have a good lawyer.  

Just when you thought the baby making drama couldn’t get worse….The New York Post Page Six gossip column and Star magazine are reporting that Shar Jackson is seven weeks pregnant by none other than K-Fed. Yes AGAIN.  We’re not sure if this is true and actually we’re hoping by the sheer grace of God that it is not. Shar Jackson already has two children by her former high school boyfriend, a boy named Donnie and a daughter named Cassie. She also has a boy Kaleb and a girl named Kori by Keven Federline.   All We Can Say At The SdB eZine: You would think when a man leaves you pregnant and runs off to get engaged to a drug addicted pop ho you wouldn’t be attracted to him any more, less known sleep with him bare back. Somebody please call the birth control police.

Tidbits:

• Fans were disappointed yesterday to learn that rapper/ actor LL Cool J has changed his summer touring schedule. ALLHIPHOP.com is reporting that the ab man will perform at the 15th Annual Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest, which takes place July 15-21 in Montego Bay, Jamaica, but all other appearances are canceled due to an unspecified family problem.

• In another Hollywood musical beds bit ….Vibe Confidential broke the story of Singer Eric Benet and Prince’s ex-wife Manuela Testolini after they were seen together on several outings. Now Page Six is calling them a couple.  Check it out here.  

 On TV: Last Wednesday we encouraged all of our readers to watch the premiere of Tyler Perry’s House of Payne and we apologize. We watched as well and let’s just say it was painful to watch.  The second episode was a little better and we found ourselves chuckling briefly. With the previews promising better episodes tonight we are going to risk your trust and recommend we all give it a second chance. Watch a double header of Tyler Perry’s House of Payne tonight on TBS. If it’s as bad as it was last week we promise to never mention it again.

The event will include workshops such as Real Talk: Personal Responsibility and having a plan for your life.  If you cannot attend this wortthwhile event bookmark the site. There are plans to make it a resource for black men in the coming days and months. There is a learing and resource section coming soon and a collaboration section which will be an interactive section allowing members to discuss and debate isssues that effect the black male and our entire communities.

What’s Happening?

Shemar Moore is the latest to get caught drinking and driving. The former soap regular and co-star of the hit series Criminal Minds was pulled over for speeding in Los Angeles by CHP near Santa Monica Boulevard. The CHP says the 37 year old actor showed signs of impairment, and was booked after failing a sobriety test. Shemar was released on $5000 bell later that day. Celebs committing this offense seem to be at record proportions with no end in sight. Paris Hilton began her 23 day stay in the Los Angeles penal system this week. Paris is not alone, there are a host of other celebs who are being monitored or facing similar charges. All we can say at the SdB eZine is: Go to jail, directly to jail, don’t pass go and don’t collect $200. There’s just no excuse yall, NONE.

Speaking of Shemar….Tyler Perry, the man that featured Shemar in his blockbuster film Diary of a Mad Black Woman is set to make t.v. history on TBS. The Award winning director and producer is set to launch his new sitcom House of Payne tonight. The writer/producer/actor/slash director decided to put his own money behind creating episodes to launch in ten test markets. The airings were so successful that in an unheard of move TBS purchased 100 episodes. Madea will make a guest appearance in the first show and Mr. Brown will make a guest appearance in the second. In other news…On monday we reported the death of throw back artist Tony Thompson from Hi-Five, today we’ve learned that legendary producer Marley Marl has suffered a massive heart attack. The frontman for the Juice Crew who’s real name is Marlon Williams, produced hits for hip-hop acts such as LL, Big Daddy Kane and Kool G Rap. He is also noted for the legendary feud with KRS One and BDP. Mr. Williams is said to be in stable condition and recovering in a New York hospital.

OnTV: It’s Wednesday and suprisingly we are recommending The Next Best Thing at 8:00 p.m. on ABC. This odd new reality show is looking for the next best inpersonator…we think. The good one’s have been amazing and the bad ones have been well amazing too. Amazingly funny that is, in an American Idol audition show way.  It’s good filler until the 9:00 p.m. debut of Tyler Perry’s new series House of Payne on TBS. Check it out!!

Today’s Recommended website: www.great-online.org/… The G.R.E.A.T Program is a school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum. With prevention as its primary objective, the program is intended as a solution for delinquency, youth violence, and gang membership.  This is an organization that trains officers on how to really reach certain groups of children…the right way. If you know some overzealous law enforcement officers in your neighborhood that could benefit from some training and a program to encourage working together write a letter to your local law leaders and city politicians and include  this link.  You can ask for an officer to be sent to the training so that he or she can really be useful in the community and train his or her fellow officers to do the same. Let’s take back or neighborhoods and encourage community policing.

What’s Happening?

Lebron James was all smiles after leading the Cleveland Cavaliers to their first ever NBA Championship! The superstar and his team have advanced to the NBA Finals, where they will take on the two time champion San Antonio Spurs in a seven game series beginning on Thursday June 7^th. The person who should be the most worried is James’ long time girlfriend Savannah Brinson, but not for obvious reasons.

Savannah is expected to deliver the couples second child on June 17^th during what could be the most import series of games the team has played in its history. When Brinson gave birth to LeBron James Jr. in October 2004, James left training camp in Columbus for several days. That time, Brinson was about a week late giving birth.

If she’s early this time and the Cavs are playing, there’s a chance it could happen while the team is 1,000 miles away in San Antonio. Just last month Savannah, 8-months pregnant was taken from the arena on a stretcher in the middle of a play-off game, neither the superstar baller or his mother left the game to accompany Ms. Brinson to the hospital.  All We Can Say At The SdB eZine: If the playoffs are any indication of his priorities, home girl better put her own mama on speed dial.

In what may be indicative of where America’s head is at…..More people tuned in for the series ending of the Sopranos and the 2007 MTV movie awards then they did for the 2nd Democratic Debate.  8 candidates took the stage in a two part democratic show of support within party lines. Senators John Edwards and Barack Obama both shined, improving from the lackluster almost amauteur performance seen in the first debate back in April. Hillary Clinton seems to still be the front runner displaying what analyst are calling ”firm presidential traits”  Sitting center stage the New York Senator seemed to be leading the discussion during most of the night. Though it may not mean anything in the long run we were most impressed with Gov. Richardson and Senator Biden’s outrage and stance on the genocide in Darfur.  Click here for a transcript. 

As the 2008 Democratic candidates were debating America was tuned into the 2007 MTV Movie awards…the annual event featured celebs from all walks of entertainment in attendance. Several graced the stage for memorable performances that we didn’t connect to any of the nominations. Rihanna performed along with British new comer Amy Winehouse, neither were up for a nomination as far as we could tell. “We” were virtually locked out of the event in terms of awards Jaden Smith son of Will and Jada took home an award for his breakthrough performance in The Pursuit of Happyness along side his father. The rest of the event was a total blackout. In the census…The Panache Report posted breaking news this morning on the death of Tony Thompson.  The late singer was a member of the group Hi-Five. The singing quartet from Waco was formed in 1990 and had a string of hits including “I like the way (the kissing game)” and “I can’t wait another minute”.   Thompson had his own record label, N’Depth, and re-incarnated Hi-Five with four new members, one of whom is his younger brother. The group’s new album, The Return, was released in 2006. 31 year old Thompson was found dead Friday of an suspected drug overdose. 

On TV: It’s Monday….with the season over for most of our favorite shows get ready for repeats, and more repeats.  In case you missed the first time around House is showing an encore of it’s season finale tonight at 8:00 p.m. on FOX.  In the 9:00 p.m. slot catch the season kick-off of Hell’s kitchen immediately following House or tune in for the return of Shar Jackson to television in the premiere of The Ex-Wives club. They even offer to deposit your winnings into your bank account all for free.  Yeah Right! Don’t be fooled most promotions for foreign lotteries are likely to be phony. Many scam operators don’t even buy the promised lottery tickets. Others buy some tickets but keep the “winnings” for themselves. In addition, lottery hustlers use the victims’ bank account numbers to make unauthorized withdrawals or their credit card numbers to run up additional charges. Lastly In both the U.S. and Canada, it’s illegal to play a foreign lottery – through the mail or on the telephone or Internet.

What’s Happening?  

First off in the world of celebrity drama…Michael Jackson is back in the news for two reasons today. The self exiled former King of Pop has increased his portfolio with the recent joint acquisition with Sony/ATV publishing for the rights of Famous Music LLC from Viacom.   FM owns the rights to hits by Eminem, along with rights to songs by Shakira, Beck and Bjork, all of which will join the Beatles catalog under the Sony/ATV Music Publishing stable. “This is a milestone event for Sony/ATV Music Publishing,”
Jackson said in a statement. “The diverse collection of songs in this catalog range from timeless classics to contemporary hits, and I am pleased to add the acquisition of Famous Music to Sony/ATV.” In case you’re wondering Jackson bought ATV publishing back in 1985. ATV eventually merged with Sony in 1995, making them one of the largest music publishing companies in the world.  Jackson owns 50 percent of the company…Although Jacko seems to be riding high with this new deal,  there are rumors swirling around his supposed comeback. First Quincy Jones reportedly declined the gloved ones attempts at getting him to work on the comeback album.  Next the British newspaper The Sun reported earlier this week that the superstar asked Prince to do a joint tour with him and was turned down flat.  Jackson’s camp is now denying that this occurred. A statement from his Rep Raymone K. Bain to EURweb.com says that the story is completely untrue. Several news outlets have already picked up the story and are running with it. We plan to reserve comment until we hear something from the Purple one himself.

Speaking of which…What is up with Prince? Is he broke, on meds or what? The high heeled hipster has been making more commercial appearances and deals in recent months then ever in his career. Today it was announced that Guitar the first single from a new album due in July, will be available free exclusively to Verizon Wireless subscribers who participate in an online demo of its new Song ID music identification service.  He’s also conducting an exclusive concert at Macy’s department store to promote his new fragrance 3121, as well as several other impromptu performances at schools and around the world. Prince is currently without a label to market and distribute his upcoming album but he’s been there before and he’s still always been a recluse.  We’re trying to figure out why he has decided to come out the proverbial closet after all this time!?!? Could the Purple wonder be broke? 

In other star news to make you go hhmmm….Beyoncé-just call her Ms. Knowles was interviewed this week by French magazine Questions de femmes. The former Destiny’s Child front woman was asked about her plans for marriage and children in the future. Bee expressed no plans to jump the broom anytime soon but did insist that, although she always looks immaculate when she goes out, she’s really low-maintenance. “I actually don’t like wearing make-up, I’d rather be natural,” she says. “My hair is natural and when I go out I don’t need to spend hours deciding what I will wear or which make-up to put on. I know exactly what I want.”  All we can say at the SdB eZine: Say what!?!? Natural how?!?!? This girl is really, really dumb. We try to give her the benefit of the doubt but the girl is just brain dead.

Denise recently told vibe.com  about her up coming book The Black Box and spoke on the fact that she no longer goes by Vanity. She told Vibe,  “I wanted to separate myself from the sinful name that made me famous. Vanity means worthlessness, and that’s the last thing I want to be known for. And I’m not worthless anymore. Last week your friendly neighborhood eZine featured The Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin in our Wednesday WITW, to much, much flack. We received several emails admonishing us for our lack of respect for the living legend. So let us just say right now…We love Re-Re too, don’t get it wrong…but we stand by our thought that she better think, before she comes out the house without a bra on again. There’s just no need for all of that. So in honor of Ms. Franklin the buxom diva herself we are starting out the morning with a report from Sister-2-Sister Magazine that Aretha has joined Jenny Craig. We swear we’re not being funny….Aretha says she is on a crash diet to prepare for her upcoming numptials to Willie Wilkerson Jr…Aretha is confident that Jenny will work because she’s had success with them in the past. Franklin says, “I’m at 1,750 calories a day and I’m starving.  It’s a strain because you’re eating the Jenny Craig-type meals, which are very good. But you can only eat them for so long before you want some barbecue ribs or some pigs feet. ” All we can say at SdB is: We’re not saying a damn thing…do we have to!?!?!?

In other celeb news…Usher has lost his mind…no seriously the young R&B star is on a campaign to stop the media from talking about his fiancé,  hairdresser-slash-manager. Usher has called into Tom Joyner and Wendy William’s radio shows to confront them about bashing his lady love. The Panache Report is claiming Ush even threatened Tom saying he would kick his ass if he said anything else about Tameka. All we can say at SdB is: Ush has had some run-ins with whacky wendy in the past so we’re not fretting on that, but we would pay cash money to see Ush and Big boy Tom go at it. Speaking of bringing the smack down:  Kobe Bryant got his lash -out on over the radio yesterday! The LA Lakers starter broke rank this week speaking out about dissension in his franchise. Bryant accused the Lakers of deceiving him about their plans to undergo long-term rebuilding in the post-Shaquille O’Neal era and also spoke on the rumors that he forced the Lakers to trade O’Neal.  In other NBA news….Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade and his wife Siohvaughn, annouced on their web site the birh of their second child.  It’s a bouncing baby boy! The couple welcomed 6 pound 11 ounce Zion in Chicago last night at 8:45 p.m. This is the second son for the couple, who are already parents to a 5-year-old son, Zaire.

Last but not least it’s official Essence has sunk to a new low!  This week the online version of the popular African American magazine did an exclusive with none other than Hottie. We know you’re thinking who! The flavor of love train wreck and Charm School reject Schatar Hottie Taylor-White is speaking out exclusively to everybody and they mama and Essence had to be in on the scoop. The mag sat down with the delusional young woman to talk about her recent departure from the show Flavor of Love’s – Charm School, hosted by comedian and actress Monique.  Hottie was voted off of charm school under a cloud of suspiscion last week. The actress was set-up and accused of theivery, that would have seemed real had there not been camera’s following everyone around!?!?  As if she has not been embarrassed enough, in an effort to prolong this nightmare Ms Taylor issued a public statement blasting VH1 and requesting a formal apology. All we Can say at SdB is: She needs to apologize to the American public for us having to endure that hideous weave in her head. Insert your own rolleyes here. OnTV:  It’s Wednesday and the 2007 season of American Idol has come and gone. Wondering what you can fill your Wednesday nights with now? It’s early enough to start watching with audition episodes still being aired. Check it out at 8:00 p.m. on FOX. Competing in the same time slot on ABC is the new reality series  The Next Best Thing: Who is the Greatest Celebrity Impersonator? Celeb look-a-likes compete for $100,000, yawn.   Our # 1 pick for tonight is: The Sopranos! HBO is airing the previous 7 episodes leading up to the series finale, airing on Sunday, June 3rd.  Catch episodes 81 and 82 tonight at 8 and 9 p.m.

What’s Happening!

All is fair in love and war…at least that’s what we thought. We start this Memorial Day Weekend off with the shocking announcement that Vernon Winfrey’s tell-all-book on his media mogul daughter has been put on hold. Papa Winfrey insist he was not encouraged to drop his publishing plans by his wealthier, sole provider, meal ticket, source of most things material in his life daughter although Oprah expressed shock and disappointment this week when she found out about her fathers plans. All We Can Say At The SdB eZine Is:  We would have paid cash money to hear that conversation.  Put on hold!? Whether it was by threat or love for his daughter and not wanting to strain their good relationship, we know there could be no other reason on the planet that he has changed his mind; other than his-daughter-did-not–want–him-to-do-it.   Let’s be real she could have collaborated with him– made it a touching father daughter memoir. On hold is Hollywood speak for not gonna happen anytime soon.  Kitty Kelley, better watch her back. If you strong-arm your own daddy…

In other news that sounds a little fishy…Kimora Lee Simmons made all the rounds in France at the Cannes Film Festival this week and she wasn’t alone. The model – slash- fashion diva – slash purveyor of wealthy men was seen hugged up and hanging on to African actor and model Djimon Hounsou!?? Go ahead say it: Huh!?, that’s what we were thinking too. Say it isn’t so. We all know K-lee’s claim to fame, but for those of you unaware, Djimon is the critically acclaimed actor who played the leading role in Amistad and most recently Blood Diamond.  He’s been nominated for numerous awards including a first in 2004 as the only Black African having ever been nominated for an Oscar. In Feb. of this year it was announced that he will be the new Calvin Klein underwear model. He has always appeared to be a very serious and thought provoking man on  in interviews, and fans are wondering what in God’s name made him hook-up with Kimora!?!? All We Can Say At The SdB eZine Is: Damn that don’t even sound right…dude you are forever suspect.

Speaking of suspect and strange…Chili from TLC is back in the news but this time it’s not her old boo but her new beau that’s causing the buzz. Here’s the scoop it’s kinda complicated …Over the last couple of months Usher, Chili’s ex (under some pretty steamy allegations) hooked-up with his married with children hair dresser. She reportedly left her husband and three kids to be with Ush. They’ve since gotten preggers and engaged we’re not sure in which order.  Meanwhile mama Ush one of the seemingly most supportive mothers in hollyweird was kicked to the curb. Rumors started circulating almost instantly after mama ush was canned as her sons manager that Moms had signed Chili the ex to a management deal.  The rumors proved to be true. Now another scandal has broken out taking this saga full circle. Chili has been reportedly dating hunky CNN news anchor T.J Holmes, who himself is married and reportedly going through a divorce. Sources told mediatakeout.com in a recent report that Mr. Holmes met Chili in November 2006 when he was already going through problems in his marriage and that his relationship with the R&B star has not helped. All We Can Say At The SdB eZine Is: How can two people break-up because of cheating, claim great growth and learning from the experience then turn around and date two married people!? We guess Chili is okay about cheating with someone but not being cheated on…. If they cheat with you they will cheat on…oh never mind…

Last but not least:  We can’t choose which of these couple story’s to report on so we’ll just hit on both a bit. Bobby Brown is back in the news flaunting his new love… Gossip maven CJ at the Star Tribune in Minneapolis is reporting more rumors about bobby being hooked up with Whitney’s old pal music executive Alicia Etheridge. CJ is claiming that Alicia is now Bobby’s manager and Bobby has been introducing her to everyone as his girlfriend when in public.  Earlier this month rumors were flying that the two may have been on their way to the alter.  All We Can Say At The SdB eZine Is: It’s probably true where else did he get the money to challenge his divorce and pay his back child support. Going public must have been a condition of their agreement…of course we’re just speculating!!

Last, last but not least…is Brittany Daniels pregnant? In case you don’t know who that is, Brittany Daniels plays the white girl Kelly on the CW hit show The Game. Earlier in the year we reported that the blond we really like is dating our own Keenen Ivory Wayans. It appeared that Keenen had gone from his light damn near white wife Daphne to the real McCoy. A reliable source who knows his ex Daphne Wayans really well tells the SdB eZine that “Keenen is an asshole and he was abusive to Daphne mother of his 5 children during their time together”. MTO is also reporting that Keenen kicked Daphne out the house when he hooked up with Brittany.  All We Can Say At The SdB eZine Is: Okay why are we more worried about Brittany than we are anybody else in this scenario!?!? Let’s hope the pregger rumors are not true…Save the white girl save the world …wait wrong show.

 On TV:  This holiday eve we suspect that many will be on their way to a weekend getaway to kick off the upcoming summer season and not parked in front of the TV. For those of you who plan to keep close to home are recommended pick for the night is the ABC show National Bingo Night. This new interactive game show features various versions of Bingo pitting contestants against the studio audience and players at home via the internet. Today’s Recommended Website is:  Ancestry.com!  It’s Memorial Day Weekend! This holiday commemorates U.S. men and women who have died in military service to their country. Ancestry.com, the world’s largest online family history database, released U.S. military war records yesterday including 37 million images spanning 400 years and 90 million names. The digitized records date from a Jamestown militia in 1607 to Iraq war records from 2006. The records, which come from the National Archives and Records Administration, can be viewed at no cost until the June 6 anniversary of D-Day.  Check it out!

All is not well in the land of O! It seems the talk show queen is a little shaken about the latest “author” to announce they are penning a book about her. Apparently Daddy Winfrey is in the process of “writing” a book tentatively titled, “Things Unspoken”.   Oprah Winfrey told the New York Daily News upon hearing about the book: “I was upset. I won’t say ‘devastated,’ but I was stunned. The last person in the world to be doing a book about me is Vernon Winfrey, the last person.” As reported here previously Kitty Kelley is also writing a book about the media queen, Ms. Kitty is famous for her tell-alls and this one is already hot. It’s been reported that some editors and publishers won’t even read it (they skurred).  At the Elie Wiesel Foundation Humanitarian Awards in
New York this past weekend Oprah had even more to say, “We talk, we talk, we talk.”  That’s why “I would have preferred to have known my father was working on this. It would have been a nice gesture, a courtesy,” she said.  All we can say at the SdB eZine: Bet neither one of those will make the Oprah Book list!!!  Why is daddy-O keeping his book on the down-low…hmmm we can only speculate…until it comes out and we go buy it!!! Aww hush yall know yall gonna go buy it too!

Speaking of Oprah…Fantasia Barrino made her Broadway debut as Celie in the stage production of The Color Purple, amid rave reviews a few days ago. The American Idol finalist has brought charm and box office receipts to the long running show playing the part of Celie. The New York Times said: She’s pretty terrific. So terrific that this earnest but mechanical musical is more effective and affecting than it was when it yawned open a year and a half ago at the Broadway Theater. If you plan to be in the New York area check it out, it’s supposed to be a must see event. In other news today…This week BV Buzz is reporting that Beyoncé’s sister Solange has quietly divorced her husband David Smith. The two were married in a shot gun wedding in March of 2004. Seven months later in October of the same year the teen gave birth to a son David Smith Jr. In Feb.YBF Blog Spot reported Solange was secretly dating JR Smith of the Denver Nuggets. This marriage that was doomed to fail is said to be officially disolved and Solange is reportedly now dating Lil Wayne. BV Buzz says her reps are calling the rumor of her and the young rapper totally unfounded yet when asked about the divorce the rep said, “we don’t comment on our clients’ personal lives”! All we can say at the SdB ezine:  Yeah righhht….We aren’t surprised baby daddy got kicked to the curb after a reasonable amount of time had passed and her image was saved, but Lil Wayne!?!?? Did she not see the kiss!?!  We’re hoping she’s with the baller.  

Last but not least speaking of fake and secret weddings…mediatakeoutthetruth.com is reporting that Janet Jackson and Jermain Dupri have gotten engaged. The Superstar producer and Janet have been dating for 5 years. PeopleMag.com is also reporting the story. Janet herself says she doesn’t even know if they are engaged. When asked if they were getting married the 40+ R&B princess told a British radio station yesterday ”That’s what he said. He, um … that’s … everyone’s been asking me about this. He said something about September 26th we were getting married.”  When pressed she did admit that is the date her new album–that shall remain nameless here because of the cheap publicity stunt–drops. OnTV: Even though we are a day late and a dollar short, we have to mention that we caught Comedy Unleashed – Hot Chocolate last night with Byron Allen. It was a special show that ended with the making of Eddie Murphy’s Delirious. This is the 25th Anniversary of the ground breaking stage performance, and many turned out to pay their respects. Arnaz J, and DC Curry were just two of the black comics to sit-down with Byron that had us giggling and losing track of what we were supposed to be watching on a Tuesday night!  Tonight’s pick: Although having Melinda eliminated was a travesty for ratings (yall know she had a record deal before she left the show so don’t feel bad) and it seems the AI crew pulled a Clay Aiken this year, we are recommending The season finale of American Idol on Fox. We are also going to go out on a limb and recommend tonight’s episode of Dr Phil. Check your local listing for channel and time…we don’t watch this show so we don’t really know! Previews of tonight’s episode seems real Jerry Springer-ish and we can’t wait to see Dr. Phil turn red and curse at the patients.

 What’s Happening!

This weekend was hot and not just in the weather department…Celebs did their thing all weekend at different events including the continuation of the playoffs…some did it up a little too early and didn’t even make it to the festivities..New York police pulled over Method Man after spotting the rapper approaching the Battery Tunnel in Brooklyn in a Lincoln Navigator with expired tags. AllHipHop.com and Eur.web is reporting that, after approaching the vehicle the officer said he smelled marijuana and spotted two “blunts” and a plastic bag with more marijuana in plain view.  The member of the Wu Tang Clan, whose real name is Clifford Smith admitted to having even more of the drug under his seat. In total the officer located 28 grams in the rappers vehicle and he was promptly arrested and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, criminal possession of marijuana, operating a motor vehicle under the influence and driving an uninspected motor vehicle. Mr. Smith was released on his own recognizance early Friday… All We Can Say at SdB is: He won’t get the Paris treatment…bet! He might do a lil time.

Speaking of which… We don’t usually report news from the lighter side of the celeb world, however the news that Paris Hilton’s sentence has been reduced, speaks directly to several news stories we’ve been reporting.  A few well known black actors, athletes and rappers have been arrested for DUI and various vehicular violations in the past couple of months. Some high profile incidents include Tracy Morgan’s repeat offenses, Eve, and a few others. In recent news wealthy hotel heiress Paris Hilton was sentenced to 45 days in jail earlier this month after being found guilty (for the second time) of driving on a license which had been suspended following a previous conviction for drink-driving. Paris was ordered to report to jail by June 5^th to begin serving out her sentence. From the beginning speculation arose that she would never serve a day, amongst her own failed attempts to appeal and get the Governor of California to pardon her. It looks like race and wealth have prevailed, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department has announced that Ms. Hilton’s sentence has been reduced to 23 days for “good behavior”. Although the heiress has not served a moment of time she is apparently already earning goodtime credit for such things as showing up to court 10 minutes late. We at the SdB eZine understand that her time would have been reduced because of normal good time credit IF she were to report when scheduled and display good conduct during her stay. Paris Hilton has not done any of those things, she has repeatedly showed her disregard to the law and following court order, yet she is being rewarded and not expected to earn good credit like EVERY OTHER inmate in LASD custody.  The fact that the LASD took it upon themselves to cirumvent the system and do something that was probably going to be done anyway is grossly unfair and unfortunate for others are serving a sentence yet have to EARN their good time credit. If you have a loved one in LASD sheriff custody who has not been given the Paris treatment or you are outraged as much as we are you can give Sheriff spokesman STEVE WHITMORE a call at his DIRECT NUMBER (323) 573-2387 or (323) 526-5541 to voice your complaints and demand your love one be given the same option.  You can also find out more info about Paris Hilton’s sentence. Happy calling… maybe with enough calls the LASD will take back this unfair and biased decision and let Ms. Hilton EARN her goodtime credits the same way EVERYBODY else does.

In other legal news…Rap mogul Sean Puffy Combs has dismissed a complaint by his former choreographer accusing him of assault, insisting her claims are “false.” Laurie Ann Gibson, who appeared on the MTV reality show “Making The Band,” recently filed an official complaint with the New York Police Department (NYPD) after the hip-hop star allegedly threw a chair at her during filming for the program. A spokesman for the NYPD confirmed a complaint had been made, but no criminal activity had been found. All we can say at the SdB eZine is: *sniff* *sniff* yeah we smell a lawsuit too….checkout the full story here. On a lighter note…The queen of Soul Aretha Franklin, who began her career at the age of 14 singing in the Detroit church of her father, Reverend C.L. Franklin, will give back to those gospel roots as she leads a “revival” for her hometown of Detroit for the third consecutive year.   This year’s event will take place at
Detroit‘s Greater Emmanuel Institutional Church of God in Christ, beginning Thursday, June 14 through Saturday, June 16 at 7:00 p.m. nightly.  Get info on the event here .On TV: With the 2007 May Sweeps season finales almost complete there’s still a few major series that we know you are dying to see!   24 will premier it’s final show this season tonight on FOX at 8 p.m. Heroes will be doing the same in the 9:00p.m. slot on NBC. We are going out on a limb and recommending you watch the NBA playoff game on TNT at 8:00p.m. If you can, catch the Cleveland Cavs take on the Detroit Pistons. Speaking of which…Cavs player Lebron James’s girlfriend Savannah Brinson was rushed from the arena at halftime Wednesday — eight months pregnant, ill but ultimately OK. Savannah Brinson,  left the arena on a stretcher at halftime. Neither James or his mama left the game with the ailing baby mama. Brinson, who is due to give birth to her and James’ second child a boy due next month, is at home and James said Brinson is doing fine. All We Can Say at SdB is: We realize Lebron was working but dammnn, what kind of monster-in-law would not leave a basketball game to see about their unborn grandbaby!?!? What are we saying: Probably the kind that got a DUI earlier this year…not only did mama James kick-out a window in the police car but the old cougar had to be maced. Yes they had to MACE Lebron mama yall!!!!

This company has a horrible record of selling defective used cars and they have literally thousands of complaints on various consumer fraud protection sites including BBB.org and ripoffreport.com.

Beyonce’s father Matthew Knowles has invested in a line of children’s toys with an urban theme according to the gossip and entertainment blog The Panache Report. Matthew Knowles is the Music World Entertainment  founder which manages talent such as Kelly Rowland former member of Destiny’s Child. Papa Knowles has now teamed up with “Planet Toys,” to create a hip-hop inspired toy line, called Baby Jamz . Mr. Knowles was inspired to invest in this venture with Beyonce’s nephew Juelz because he reportedly states “there are no children’s toys that reflect urban society there is a real opportunity for us to make a benchmark here.” The brand will be supported by a hip-hop CD series. All we can say at the SdB eZine is: We guess he has never heard of “BRATZ” or the Homies maybe!?!??! 

 In an update of a story reported here on Wednesday’s addition on the eZine Soul star Ike Turner insists he has no complaints after police mistakenly arrested him on outstanding drug charges due to a computer glitch earlier this week. TMZ.com spoke with the 75-year-old who was pulled over by Los Angeles cops in a traffic stop on Tuesday night. When asked if he’s angry with officials, Turner told website TMZ.com, “Not at all. They could have been right. We all make mistakes.” Turner was taken into custody when officers discovered he had an outstanding no-bail felony drugs warrant dating back to 1989. Turner had spent the night in jail, before it came to light that the drug warrant was actually recalled in 1989.  

Jigga himself is working with Amy Winehouse on a remix of the British singers hit Rehab. The track will feature Amy’s original vocals mixed with rap verses. TMZ.com is reporting that Jay Z is using this opportunity to poke fun at some celebs who have sought rehab both living and dead.  Part of the lyrics include the verse I’m a OD til I’m in peace like Anna Nicole!

Speaking of Jigga his better half Beyonce earned six nominations Wednesday for the 2007 BET Awards, including nods for top female R&B artist, video for “Irreplaceable” and duets with Jay-Z on “Deja Vu” and “Upgrade U.”  “Dreamgirls” Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, R&B singer Ciara, hip-hop’s Akon and the group Gnarls Barkley all took three nominations.The Black Entertainment Television Awards in music, television, film and sports will be presented June 26. Mo’Nique is slated to host the show on cable’s BET Network from the Shrine Auditorium. Performers include 50 Cent and T.I.  Diana Ross will be honored with BET’s Lifetime Achievement Award and Don Cheadle will be given the Humanitarian Award for his efforts at ending genocide in Darfur.
